Founding Group terms
Paying the Founding Group deposit means your group agrees to these terms. They match the Recess Founding Group Agreement, which we’ll also send you to sign. Last updated October 6, 2026.
What Recess does
Each fiscal year, Recess will:
- Prepare your group’s IRS Form 990-N (e-Postcard), for groups with gross receipts normally $50,000 or less.
- Prepare your group’s Illinois Attorney General annual report (AG990-IL), ready for your officers to sign and submit, if your group must file one. We check this for you.
- Remind you of your Illinois Secretary of State annual report, if your group is incorporated.
- Send you a calendar of every deadline for the coming year.
Not included: Form 990-EZ or Form 990 (groups over $50,000; we can quote these separately); getting lost tax-exempt status back (our separate Rescue service); bookkeeping, audits, financial reviews, legal advice, or representing your group before the IRS or the State of Illinois; government fees, which your group pays directly.
Price and payment
Your group pays $149 per fiscal year, locked for your next two fiscal years if you reserve by October 31, 2026.
- $49 deposit when you reserve your spot.
- $100 balance when your filings are ready for your review.
- Missed years: if your group skipped e-Postcards for earlier years, we prepare those too for $49 per missed year, paid with the balance.
Payments go through Stripe. If Recess cannot start work by the start date below, your deposit is refunded in full.
Timeline
Work starts on October 20, 2026, or when Recess receives your records, whichever is later.
- Recess will finish your filings at least 5 business days before each deadline, as long as your records arrive at least 15 business days before it.
- The IRS e-Postcard is due on the 15th day of the 5th month after your fiscal year ends, or the next business day. It has no extension.
- The Illinois AG990-IL is due 6 months after your fiscal year ends.
- If records arrive late, Recess will still try to meet the deadline but cannot promise it.
What your group does
Your group provides accurate records, and your officers review and approve every filing before it is submitted.
- Send the year’s income and spending records (bank statements or your treasurer’s report) and your officers’ names.
- Tell Recess about anything unusual, like a large donation, a new bank account, or a change of officers.
- Review each filing and confirm it is correct before submission. Your group is responsible for the accuracy of the information it gives Recess.
The fine print
- Who Recess is: a new filing-preparation service, not a CPA firm or law firm. Recess’s preparer will hold a valid IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) before preparing any filing.
- Privacy: Recess uses your records only to prepare your filings, never shares or sells them, and returns or deletes them when you ask.
- Ending this agreement: either side can end it with written notice, including email. Your group pays only for work already finished, and any unused deposit is refunded.
- Mistakes: if Recess makes an error, Recess will fix it at no cost and pay any IRS or Illinois penalty caused by that error. Otherwise, Recess’s total responsibility is limited to the fees your group paid in that year.
